David has enjoyed a varied and illustrious career in aviation, culminating in a senior leadership role with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) as the Head of Airworthiness. This role saw him manage a team maintaining the UK’s Airworthiness Approvals, Aviation Risk Management and the transition of the CAA from the EU aviation regulator EASA.
His vast experience includes leading [aviation safety] operations across the industry from fast jets to rotary operators via A380s. David is adept at working with small to multi-national organisations, regulators to innovators and start-ups to experienced businesses all looking for support to understand how they navigate the fast-changing aviation environment.
Working at C-Suite levels, David is focussed on reinvesting his considerable experience to make the aviation industry a safer, efficient and better place to work. Establishing his own consultancy in 2022, he has assisted companies in the UK and Europe with support programmes that have benefitted their operations. A confident and strategic thinker, David works with his clients to understand how to optimise their business and identify what is restraining them from meeting their strategic goals.
David is a firm believer in creating a transparent and trustworthy relationships with his clients, a belief he developed in his role as a regulator where the integrity of himself and his team was critical in maintaining aviation safety. This was reinforced by the time he spent working with the industry following up on safety incident and accidents, including a review into helicopter operations which supported the award of his Fellowship to the Royal Aeronautical Society.
David’s aviation career started when he joined the Royal Air Force, aged 16, where he trained initially in engineering and airworthiness. Outside of work he enjoys family time in West Sussex, supporting a local school as a parent governor and is seen occasionally running or in the gym
